“Mom, will you take me to a place where I have something exciting to do?” asked the baby elephant.
“Sure, my dear boy. Today we are going to a special place where you have never been before,” said the mother elephant. They started walking and walking and finally reached a meadow. It was a beautiful place with a lot of grass and fruit-bearing trees. The baby elephant was happy and played around.
Then the baby elephant saw a monkey. Curious, he asked the monkey what he was doing there.
“I live here,” said the monkey.
The baby elephant continued to play and saw a butterfly. He followed the butterfly and reached a strange place, far away from his mother. He couldn’t find his way back. Meanwhile, the mother elephant, who had woken up from her nap, couldn’t find her dear baby. She called out frantically, searching for him, but there was no trace of him.
The monkey saw the plight of the elephant and decided to help her.
“Don’t worry, mother. I can help you. I know every nook and corner, and we will be able to find your baby. If I guess right, your baby must have gone southward. Let’s go in that direction,” said the monkey.
Both the elephant and the monkey went southward. From a distance, they heard a feeble voice of the baby elephant.
“Hey, that is my son. I think he is somewhere near,” said the mother elephant.
“Let me go and look for him,” said the monkey. From tree to tree, he jumped around and finally reached the baby elephant.
“Hey, baby, don’t worry. We are here to take you back,” said the monkey. The monkey led the baby elephant back to his mother. The mother elephant hugged her baby tightly. The monkey was happy to see them reunited.
“I don’t know how to thank you, dear. Here are some gifts for you,” said the mother elephant and gave the monkey a lot of bananas to eat. The monkey was happy and shared them with his friends.
That’s the end of the story, folks. Helping each other makes everybody happy.
