The sun was shining brightly over the wilderness. The grumpy rhino, Reggie was slowly munching on some tall grass. Suddenly, a small, bright green bird named Pip landed on Reggie’s horn.
“Good morning, Mr. Rhino!” Pip chirped cheerfully. “What are you doing?”
Reggie grumbled, “I’m eating. Can’t you see?”
“But it looks so boring!” Pip exclaimed. “Why don’t you come play with me? I know a wonderful tree with the juiciest berries you’ve ever tasted!”
Reggie shook his head. “I’m too big to play. And I don’t like berries.”
Pip tilted her head, “But wouldn’t it be fun to run and jump? And maybe we could have a mud bath together!”
Reggie snorted. “Mud baths are messy. And I don’t know how to run or jump.”
Pip thought for a moment. “Well, then, how about we just talk? I’ve heard so many interesting stories about rhinos. Are they true?”
Reggie was surprised. “Stories about me?”
“Yes!” Pip said excitedly. “They say rhinos are very strong and can charge really fast! And that their horns are magical!”
Reggie chuckled. “Magical? No, my horn is just for digging.”
“Oh,” Pip said thoughtfully. “But it looks so cool! Like a giant ice cream cone!”
Reggie laughed. “Well, I suppose it does look a bit like that.”
As they talked, Reggie realized that Pip was a lot of fun. He even found himself smiling as he listened to her stories. And soon, he wasn’t so grumpy anymore.
“You know,” Reggie said, “maybe we could take a walk together. I’d like to see that berry tree you mentioned.”
Pip squawked with delight. “That sounds like a plan!”
So, the grumpy rhino and the curious bird set off on an adventure together, and Reggie learned that making a new friend can be a lot more fun than eating grass.
