A lion family—a mom, a dad, and their one playful cub—were searching for a new place to live. Soon, they found a perfect, cozy cave tucked away in a sunny mountain valley.
"What a wonderful spot!" roared the father lion happily. "Let's call this cave our new home!" So, the whole lion family moved in and made themselves comfortable.
Little did they know, that cozy cave already belonged to a big, strong gorilla king! The gorilla was out visiting his friends in a faraway part of the forest when the lions moved in.
When the gorilla king finally returned, he was surprised to see the lion family!
"Hey! Who are you, and what are you doing in my cave?" the gorilla king asked loudly.
The father lion stepped forward politely. "Oh, we are so sorry! We truly didn't know this cave was yours," he explained. "We were just looking for a safe place."
The gorilla king thought for a moment. He was a fair king. "Hmm," he grumbled, "You can stay here just until the sun comes up tomorrow. Then, you must find a new place."
The lions agreed right away.
The next morning, just as the sun peeped over the mountains, the gorilla king walked over to the lions.
But instead of telling them to leave, he smiled! "Wait a minute, lions!" he called out. "Don't worry about finding a new spot. I know another cave that's even bigger and better!"
The gorilla king then led the happy lion family through the forest to a brand-new cave. It was big enough for everyone and had a beautiful view!
The lions were thrilled! They cheered and thanked the kind gorilla king over and over. They learned that even though they were different, being polite and fair could turn a scary meeting into a wonderful new friendship.
What do you think the lion cub explored first in their new cave?
