Gerry the Giraffe lived in a sunny corner of the city zoo. Even though he had plenty of tasty acacia leaves to munch on, he was feeling lonely.
Whenever he looked across the park, he saw the penguins waddling in pairs and the elephants walking trunk-to-tail. Every time he saw other animals with a friend, he felt a little bit empty inside. He longed for someone to talk to—someone who also had a very long neck and orange spots. But there were no other giraffes in the zoo, and he started to think there never would be.
One sunny afternoon, while Gerry was wandering near the watering hole, he saw something he couldn't believe. A large wooden crate was being carefully opened, and out stepped a beautiful female giraffe.
Her name was Ginger. She had just been moved from a different zoo and had been feeling just as lonely as Gerry. As soon as their eyes met, their tails flicked with excitement. They weren't alone anymore!
Now, Gerry and Ginger spend their days racing across the grass and sharing snacks. All the other animals in the zoo are happy, too, because they love seeing the two giraffes standing tall together, side by side.
