The Lion Who Said "No Thank You"

lion traped in a rope net and the rat trying to help him out of the net

Once upon a time, a mighty lion got tangled in a heavy rope net set by hunters. He roared and struggled, but the knots were just too tight.

A tiny, friendly mouse heard the noise and scurried over. "Don't worry, Mr. Lion!" the mouse squeaked. "I have very sharp teeth. I can nibble those ropes and set you free!"

But the lion looked down his nose at the little mouse. He thought he was too big and too brave to be helped by someone so small. "Are you trying to save me?" the lion huffed. "I don't want you to do it! Go away, silly mouse."

The mouse felt sad, but he respected the lion's wish and hopped away into the tall grass.

A few hours later, the hunters returned. Because the lion was still stuck in the net, they easily loaded him onto a big truck. As the truck drove away toward the city zoo, the lion looked out through the bars. He realized that being "big" didn't mean he had to do everything alone.

He wished he had let the little mouse be his friend. He learned a very important lesson that day: No matter how small someone is, their help is a big gift.
