Why The Lion Can't Roar?

Hey, I can't roar

Leo the Lion was exploring the tall, dry grass of the savanna when he spotted a group of swift-looking deer. Lunchtime! he thought.

As a first step, Leo let out a mighty, earth-shaking ROAR!

The deer scattered instantly, zooming off in every direction. Leo didn't want to chase the whole group—he just needed one close by. He picked the nearest deer, Dash, and started the chase! After a quick, dusty run, Leo pounced and caught him.

"Wow, Mr. Lion, you are so fast! You definitely won that race," said Dash, trying to catch his breath. "But before... you know... could you do me a favor? Could you roar one more time? I've heard you're the best, and I’d just love to hear that amazing sound up close!"

Leo puffed out his chest. "Of course, little fellow. It is, after all, your very last wish," the lion declared with a grin.

Leo took a deep breath and let out a huge, powerful roar!

"Hmm," Dash replied, tilting his head. "That was good, Mr. Lion, but I've heard other lions who sounded much louder. Can you really give me a super-duper loud roar? Use all your strength!"

A little annoyed, Leo crouched low, took an even deeper breath, and roared with every bit of power he had! The sound echoed across the savanna!

"Oh dear," Dash said sadly. "I don't know what’s wrong, but that still wasn't the loudest roar I've ever heard. Are you sure you're feeling okay? Please try just one more time!"

Leo was determined. He tried to roar with his whole heart, but this time, only a squeaky, whispering sound came out. By roaring so incredibly loud twice, he had hurt his throat and damaged his voice box.

"I... I can't roar," the lion whispered, confused.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry, Mr. Lion," Dash exclaimed, pretending to look worried. "You really need to see a doctor right away! I know a great one—a monkey doctor named Dr. Chimp! Come with me!"

The confused and silent lion followed the deer. Dash led him straight to a massive, shady tree.

"I'll see if Dr. Chimp is home, Mr. Lion. You just wait right here," Dash instructed.

The lion waited patiently by the tree... but Dash the deer never came back. He had cleverly tricked the lion and zoomed away to safety, leaving the embarrassed Leo with nothing but a very sore throat!
