Uprooting The Anger

elephant and the tree
The elephant was angry

Once upon a time, there lived a mighty elephant. It was known for its immense strength and short temper. When the elephant got angry, it would stomp around, uprooting trees to vent its frustration.

One day, the elephant spotted a tall, sturdy tree and decided to uproot it. As it wrapped its trunk around the tree, something surprising happened.

“Hey!” the tree spoke in a soft, kind voice. “Why are you trying to uproot me? I’ve done nothing to harm you.”

The elephant was startled. It paused for a moment and replied, “I am angry, and I need to satisfy my anger by uprooting you!”

The tree swayed gently in the breeze and said, “I understand that you are angry, but do you think uprooting me will make you feel better? Why don’t you tell me what’s bothering you instead?”

The elephant stopped and looked at the tree. “I’m upset because the other animals teased me for being clumsy. They say I’m too big and break everything in my path,” it said, its voice trembling.

The tree smiled kindly. “Oh, dear elephant, everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Your size makes you powerful, and that’s something to be proud of. Instead of using your strength to destroy, why not use it to help others? When you do good, you’ll feel much better.”

The elephant thought about this. “But how can I help anyone?” it asked.

The tree replied, “There are so many ways! You could help animals reach fruits on tall branches, clear paths for smaller creatures, or carry heavy loads for those in need.”

Just then, a family of monkeys swung by, looking worried. “What’s wrong?” asked the elephant.

“Our little one fell into a deep pit, and we can’t pull him out!” cried the monkey mother.

The elephant’s ears perked up. “I can help!” it said. Using its strong trunk, it carefully pulled the baby monkey out of the pit.

The monkeys cheered and thanked the elephant. For the first time, the elephant felt proud and happy.

“You see?” said the tree. “Your strength is a gift. Use it wisely, and you’ll always find joy.”

From that day on, the elephant stopped uprooting trees and started helping others instead. It became a beloved friend to all the animals in the forest, and whenever it felt angry, it would visit the tree to talk things out.

And so, the elephant learned that kindness and understanding are the strongest powers of all.
