The Wolves and the Lost Pup

two wolves heard something of a cracking sound
Look at that. I can't believe it is coming to us!

The night was cold and silent when one wolf turned to the other and said, “Did you hear that sound?”

“I heard it too,” the second wolf replied. “What do you think it could be? Let’s check it out!”

The two wolves ran in the direction of the noise, their paws crunching in the snow. Suddenly, one of them shouted, “Watch out!” A big chunk of ice came rolling down the mountain. They jumped out of the way just in time and continued their journey.

“I still hear something,” the first wolf whispered, his ears twitching. “It sounds like someone is crying.”

The second wolf nodded. “Let’s find out who’s in trouble.”

They moved carefully through the forest until they reached a small clearing. There, at the base of a tall pine tree, they found a little wolf pup, shivering and whimpering.

“Are you lost, little one?” asked the first wolf gently.

The pup nodded, tears in its eyes. “I got separated from my pack. I tried to find them, but I got scared and went the wrong way.”

The second wolf nuzzled the pup. “Don’t worry. We’ll help you find your family.”

The two wolves walked on either side of the pup, keeping it warm as they searched for its pack. They followed the scent of the other wolves through the forest. After what seemed like a long time, they finally picked up a familiar scent.

“Over there,” said the first wolf, pointing towards a ridge in the distance.

They climbed the ridge and saw the pup’s pack searching anxiously. When the mother wolf saw her pup, she ran over, licking and nuzzling it with relief.

“Thank you so much,” the mother wolf said to the two wolves. “We were so worried.”

“We’re happy we could help,” said the first wolf with a smile. “Take good care of your little one.”

The two wolves watched as the pup rejoined its family. Feeling happy, they turned to go back down the mountain, the sky beginning to lighten with the first hints of dawn.

“That was quite an adventure,” said the second wolf with a grin.

“Yes, it was,” replied the first wolf. “Sometimes, it’s important to listen with more than just our ears. We need to listen with our hearts too.”

Together, they trotted back into the forest, feeling proud of the good deed they had done and ready for whatever new adventures awaited them in the wild land they called home.
