A big, grumpy hippo was upset. He opened his giant mouth and grumbled at a little bird. “Where have you been all this time? I needed you desperately to clean my teeth!”
The little bird chirped, “I am so sorry, big hippo! I had to go to the paddy fields, and it took me a long time to get there and back.”
The hippo opened his mouth even wider. His teeth were very messy and needed a good cleaning. The bird got to work right away, hopping and flying inside the hippo’s mouth. The bird worked very hard, cleaning every single tooth until it sparkled. As the bird cleaned, it also got a tasty meal from all the bits of food stuck in the hippo’s teeth.
When the bird was finished, the hippo felt so much better. “Thank you, little bird,” he said with a happy laugh. “Now I feel so energetic! I’m going to meet my girlfriend!”
The bird smiled and said, “All the best, bro!” Then, with a happy flutter of its wings, the little bird flew away.
