An elephant was taking a stroll. It was heading toward the cool, sparkling river.
On the dusty path, the elephant suddenly heard a tiny sound. *Squeak! Squeak!* It looked down and saw a frog hopping right near its huge foot.
“Hey! Watch out, big one!” the frog called up. “You almost flattened me!”
“Oh, goodness! I am so sorry,” said the elephant. “I didn’t even see you there! Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, but be careful! Where are you going?” asked the frog.
“I’m going to the river for a big, cool drink,” the elephant explained.
The frog looked worried. “Be careful! I warn you, there’s a mean croc hidden under the water. Watch your steps!”
“Thank you for the warning, little one,” said the elephant. “I’ll be sure to look out.”
When the elephant reached the riverbank, it knew the snappy croc was hiding. Instead of stepping into the water, the elephant put its giant, heavy foot down right where the snappy creature was waiting beneath the surface.
CRUNCH!
The elephant gave the hidden croc a big, harmless squeeze with its foot, teaching it a lesson about trying to scare others. The elephant then had its refreshing drink and safely went on its way.
