The old lion stretched and yawned, his tummy rumbling. He spotted a fluffy rabbit hopping nearby. "Hello, friend!" the lion called out, trying to sound friendly. "Come spend some time with me. It would make me so happy, and you can brag to all your friends about having such a mighty friend!"
The rabbit stopped, twitching his nose. He was small and quick, with bright, clever eyes. He knew that lions and rabbits weren't usually friends. Why would this lion want to be my friend? he wondered.
The lion was indeed old. His teeth weren't as sharp as they used to be, and chasing after speedy rabbits was tiring. He figured if he could trick this rabbit into getting close, he could catch him with one easy pounce!
The rabbit, however, was no ordinary bunny. He was smart and had seen many things in the forest. He noticed the way the lion's eyes gleamed hungrily, and how he licked his lips. "Thank you, Mr. Lion," the rabbit said, his voice polite but firm. "But I promised my family I'd be back before sunset. Maybe another time?" And with a flick of his fluffy tail, the rabbit zoomed away, leaving the lion grumbling under his breath.
