The mighty lion had just finished his morning hunt. Feeling tired, he found a shady spot under a big tree and lay down to rest. Just as he was about to close his eyes, a strange sound came from above.
Rooooaaaarrrr, went the sky, but it wasn’t like any roar he had ever heard before. Curious, the lion opened his eyes wide, and looked up. At first, he saw only a tiny spot high in the sky, but as he watched, the spot grew bigger and bigger.
“Hmm,” the lion muttered to himself, “What is that? It looks like a bird, but… it’s not flapping its wings, like other birds! How is it staying up in the sky?”
The lion was very puzzled. The big, shiny thing in the sky was actually a plane carrying excited visitors who wanted to see the animals of the wild from up high. As the plane flew lower, the lion saw the smiling faces of children and adults, all pointing down at him and taking pictures.
Feeling a bit shy and startled, the lion quickly ran for cover behind some tall grass. He peeked out carefully, still watching the big bird-like thing in the sky. It roared gently, circling the sky and showing the visitors all the wonderful animals below—lions, elephants, zebras, and more!
After a little while, the plane rose higher and higher, shrinking into a tiny spot once again, until it finally disappeared into the clouds.
The lion let out a big sigh of relief. “I guess it’s not a bird after all,” he chuckled. “Just a strange visitor from the sky!”
With one last look up, he lay back down under his tree, closed his eyes, and drifted off into a peaceful nap, dreaming of the wonders of the skies above.
And from then on, whenever the lion heard a faint rumble from the sky, he knew that the curious sky visitors had come to say hello again.
