An Uphill Task

elephant and the giraffe story
Let's go further up!

“Hey, let’s go to the hills,” said the giraffe.

“Yes, we can go,” said the elephant.

They started climbing the hill. It was not an easy task. They climbed and climbed, still not reaching the top.

“I am tired,” said the elephant.

“I too,” said the giraffe.

They sat in the shadow of a tree. Then they heard a loud noise. When they looked up, they saw a rock rolling down the hill. Startled, they quickly moved out of its path and watched it crashing into the depth of the valley.

“That was close!” exclaimed the elephant.

The elephant and giraffe were frightened by that incident.

“I am going back,” the elephant said.

“Not me,” said the giraffe. “See, there are plenty of things to eat once we reach the uphill. Let’s continue.”

“Okay, let’s continue,” said the elephant reluctantly.

As they climbed the hill, the giraffe noticed the lush foliage above. “Look, Elephant, there are plenty of leaves and fruit here. We can eat and rest.”

The elephant, still hesitant, nodded. “Alright, Giraffe. Let’s eat and regain our strength.”

As they munched on the leaves and fruit, a rustling noise came from behind the tree. Startled, the elephant trumpeted loudly, ready to defend them. But out from the bushes came a small, friendly monkey.

“Hello, friends!” the monkey greeted cheerfully. “I saw you coming up the hill and thought I’d welcome you to my place.”

The giraffe smiled and the elephant relaxed. “Thank you, dear friend,” said the giraffe. “We were frightened by the rolling stone, but we’re glad to find such a wonderful place to rest.”

Relieved, the elephant and giraffe decided to stay and enjoy the food and the company of their new friend. They spent the rest of the day feasting, resting, and sharing stories with the monkey.

As the sun set, the giraffe said, “See, it was worth continuing uphill. Sometimes, the scariest paths lead to the best places.”

The elephant nodded, feeling grateful for the giraffe’s persistence. “You’re right. I’m glad we didn’t turn back.”

With their bellies full and spirits high, the elephant and giraffe settled down for the night, knowing they had found a new home and a new friend.
