Leo the lion was walking through the sunny field when he saw something funny and colorful standing all by itself. It was a tent! “Ooh, what’s that?” Leo whispered, his nose twitching. It smelled a little bit like a sleepy human.
Leo tiptoed closer, his big paws making soft steps on the green grass. The tent had a big floppy opening, like a silly mouth. Leo was very curious, so he poked his big head inside.
It was dark and smelled like someone had been napping. Then, Leo saw a big, wiggly shape move! Two round eyes popped open and looked right at Leo!
“EEK!” shouted the wiggly shape – it was a backpacker! When he saw a real, live LION looking into his tent, he jumped out the back so fast his backpack fell over! He ran and ran and ran across the field!
Leo, who was now all the way inside the tent (his fuzzy mane got a little stuck on the cloth!), looked around. “Hmm,” he rumbled softly. “That wasn’t very nice.” He sniffed the soft sleeping bag. It smelled a little bit like being scared.
Leo decided the tent wasn’t much fun after all. It was too small for a good nap, and that jumpy human made too much noise. So, Leo backed out of the tent, shaking his fluffy mane. He watched the tiny backpacker run far, far away.
“Well,” Leo thought, licking his lips. “Maybe I’ll find a sunny spot for a nap… and maybe a quieter snack later!” He turned and walked into the trees, leaving the colorful tent all alone in the field.
