Captain Goldie preened his bright yellow feathers, perched proudly on his trusty wooden log. Flying all morning across the sunny blue sky was exhausting, but being the captain of a floating river log? Now that was an adventure.
"Ahoy, Captain Birdy!" chirped a cheerful voice from the riverbank.
Goldie looked down and saw a tiny river frog waving enthusiastically.
"Ahoy, matey!" Goldie chirped back, dipping his beak into the cool water. "Are you ready to set sail for the great unknown?"
With a splash, the frog hopped right onto the log, landing right behind Goldie. "I’m First Mate Hoppy! Where are we heading, Captain?"
"To Secret Treasure Island," Goldie declared, pointing his wing toward a leafy green bend down the river.
The little wooden ship gently glided through the sparkling water. Together, they passed under weeping willow trees that dipped their branches like giant green arches, and dodged floating lily pads that looked like emerald stepping stones. Hoppy kept a lookout for river monsters (which were really just sleepy turtles taking afternoon naps), while Captain Goldie chirped out cheerful sea shanties to keep their spirits high.
Finally, the river current pushed their log gently onto a soft, sandy shore covered in smooth, colorful pebbles and wild berry bushes.
"We made it!" Hoppy squeaked, hopping onto the shore.
Goldie fluttered down next to a bush heavy with sweet, ripe blueberries—the best treasure any bird could ever ask for. After a delicious victory feast, Captain Goldie tipped his imaginary pirate hat to his brave crew mate. Floating down the river was definitely way cooler than flying!
