Grumble-Sniff the cat had sharp eyes, but Squeak-a-Doodle the rat was one step ahead.

Just as Squeak-a-Doodle turned to make a sneaky getaway, wham! Grumble-Sniff pinned the rat’s long tail right to the floor with his heavy, spotted paw.

"Aha! Caught you red-handed!" Grumble-Sniff purred with a mischievous grin. "What were you trying to swipe, little buddy? A big block of tasty yellow cheese?"

Squeak-a-Doodle squeezed his eyes shut and folded his tiny paws together, putting on his best innocent face. "Oh, no, no, noble cat! Not me! I didn't take a single crumb from this kitchen, I swear!"

Grumble-Sniff leaned down, sniffed Squeak-a-Doodle carefully, and inspected his tiny grey paws. Sure enough, Squeak-a-Doodle wasn't holding a thing. Feeling a bit silly, Grumble-Sniff lifted his paw. "Alright, off you go then. But I'm keeping my eyes on you!"

What Grumble-Sniff didn't know was that Squeak-a-Doodle was a master strategist. The moment he had heard the cat's soft footsteps earlier, Squeak-a-Doodle had quietly dropped the giant wedge of cheddar behind a cereal box and flicked his tail to signal his crew hidden under the floorboards.

While Grumble-Sniff was busy playing detective, the rest of the rat pack had already rolled the heavy cheese down a secret tunnel like a giant boulder!
