Once upon a time, two squirrels lived in a beautiful forest. They were good friends, but occasionally, they would pick fights over small things.
One day, they found a large, attractive nut on the ground beneath a tree. As soon as they saw it, both wanted it for themselves. This sparked a huge argument between them.
They began shouting and tugging at the nut. Neither was ready to give in.
Hearing the squirrels' quarrel, a monkey passed by that way. He was very clever. Seeing the delicious nut in the squirrels' hands, he instantly craved it. He approached them very calmly.
The monkey asked: "Why are you two fighting like this? Especially when someone as highly intelligent as me is right here, why should you worry? Give that nut to me. Let me hear whose argument is right, and I shall give a proper judgment."
Hearing the monkey's words, the squirrels thought he would solve their problem, so they handed the nut over to him.
The moment the nut was in his hands, the monkey wasted no time and popped it right into his mouth, and ate the nut.
Wiping his mouth, the monkey then said: "Wow! This nut is so delicious. Mmm... now let me hear your arguments, I'm listening!"
Seeing this, the squirrels were left stunned! They realized that because of their unnecessary fighting, they had completely lost the nut they had in hand.
The squirrels said sadly: "Oh dear... our nut is gone! We no longer have any claim over it."
The two of them jumped up into the tree branches together and headed back home. Happy that he could settle their dispute and get a stomach full of a delicious nut, the monkey walked back to his home as well.
When we fight unnecessarily among ourselves, a third person will come along and take advantage of it. If we share things harmoniously, everyone can be happy.
