The Cinnamon-Tail Wait

There once was a little white doggy named Pip. Pip had fuzzy fur and a tail that curled like a cinnamon roll.

Every morning, the sky was very, very blue, like Pip's favorite bouncy ball. And every morning, when the sky was blue, Pip knew something special was going to happen.

His best friend, Lily, would put on her huge, red-pink backpack. Pip couldn't wear a backpack because he had too many legs. But he was very good at waiting.

“Wait here, Pip!” Lily would say, her pigtails bouncing.

So, Pip did a very big wait.

He sat his fluffy self right on the green grass in front of the big tan house with the reddish roof. Pip liked the house because it was big, but sometimes the big, dark shadows near the blue poles made him want to do a tiny bork. But not today. Today he was waiting.

Suddenly, a giant rumbling noise came from down the street. It was bigger than Mr. Whiskers the cat. It was a giant, smiling, yellow banana-bus!

The bus had black round wheels that went round-and-round. It had windows like little grey televisions, showing all the happy kids inside.

The bus gave a big squeak! and opened its mouth. Lily ran right up the steps. She waved her hand.

Pip did his best bork-bork! and his cinnamon-roll tail wagged so fast it almost made him float.

The giant smiling bus closed its mouth and rumbled away. It looked like a happy caterpillar. Pip sat back down on the green grass. He would do another wait. He was good at it. Soon, the yellow bus would come back, and Lily would return to play tug-of-war.
