The Horse and the Puppy

Once upon a time in a sunny green pasture, lived a big brown horse and a tiny grey puppy. They were the very best of friends! Everywhere the horse trotted, the puppy was sure to follow, yapping happily and wagging his tail. A Sad Morning One morning, the puppy didn't want to run or play. He lay down in the soft barn hay with a big sigh, his floppy ears drooping all the way to the ground. He felt sad, and his tail wouldn't wag at all. The horse walked over on his big heavy hooves.

Thump, thump, thump!

He gently lowered his big snout right down to the puppy's soft nose. WHOOSH!

The horse blew a warm puff of air to say, "I'm here, little buddy!" The puppy gave a tiny, sleepy blink, but he was still too sad to sit up. The Silly Horse Dance The horse knew he had to try something silly to make his friend smile: * He kicked his back legs up in the air and did a goofy, wobbly horse dance! * He shook his head so fast his dark mane swished left and right. * He made silly snort-snort sounds. The puppy lifted his head. His ears twitched! Next, the horse carefully picked up a yellow buttercup flower in his teeth and dropped it right on top of the puppy’s nose. Boop!

Friends Forever The puppy let out a happy little woof! His tail started to wag again—thump, thump, thump against the wooden floor! He trotted over and leaned right against the horse’s big front leg. The horse bent his long neck down and gave his little friend a warm, gentle cuddle. The puppy wasn't sad anymore, because he knew that no matter what, his big friend would always be there to make him smile.
