The Secret Of Happiness According To Tammu, The Giraffe

Everyone knew Tammu the giraffe. Why? Because she was always so happy! She’d hum while munching on leaves, giggle while galloping, and even laugh at her own shadow. 

One grumpy afternoon, Leo the Lion sat under a tree, frowning as usual. That’s when he spotted Tammu skipping by. 

“Hey, Tammu,” grumbled Leo. “Why are you always so happy? Doesn’t your neck get tired? Or your legs? They’re so long!” 

Tammu giggled, her tail flicking like a wobbly windmill. “Oh, Leo! I’m happy because I appreciate what I’ve got. Look at me! Long legs to run fast, a long neck to eat the juiciest leaves—what’s not to love?” 

Leo scratched his mane, looking puzzled. “Hmph. I’ve got a big mane, sharp claws, and I’m supposed to be king of the savanna, but I’m still grumpy!” 

Tammu bent down so her giant face was nose-to-nose with Leo. “You’re grumpy because you’re always looking at the wrong stuff! Have you ever tried thinking happy thoughts about yourself?” 

Leo rolled his eyes. “Happy thoughts? Like what?” 

“Hmm…” Tammu said, tapping her hoof. “You’ve got a big roar, right? You can scare off anything!” 

“That’s true,” Leo said, his chest puffing up a little. 

“And your mane! It’s so fluffy, it’s basically a pillow for naptime!” 

“Okay, yeah…” Leo mumbled, now smiling a tiny bit. 

“And your tail! It’s like a built-in fly swatter!” 

Leo blinked. “You’re right! I am pretty awesome!” 

Tammu burst out laughing. “See? Just think happy thoughts!” She wobbled off toward her mom, humming again. 

Leo sat there, grinning. “Hmm, happy thoughts… I can do that.” 

But just then, a fly buzzed near his ear. He swatted it with his tail, only to smack himself in the nose! 

“OW!” Leo roared, rubbing his face. 

From far away, Tammu called, “Don’t forget to think happy thoughts, Leo!” 

And for the first time, Leo laughed at himself—because, let’s be honest, even the king of the jungle can look a little silly sometimes.
