The little elephant was feeling quite curious. It was his very first winter, and the world was covered in a soft, white blanket. The cold air tickled his trunk, and the snow crunched under his big, padded feet as he wandered through the national park.
He loved the way the snowflakes sparkled like tiny diamonds on the trees. As he ambled along, he spotted something very strange lying in the snow—a perfect, round, orange ball. He had never seen a ball this color before! He wiggled his ears with excitement and shuffled closer.
Ready for a new game, he lifted his foot to give the orange ball a gentle nudge. But just as he was about to touch it, the ball wiggled. Then it wiggled again. Suddenly, it uncurled, and out from the snow popped a tiny, fluffy, orange fox!
The little fox shook the snow from its coat and looked up at the towering baby elephant with wide, startled eyes. It had been curled up in a warm, sleepy ball to escape the chilly winter air.
The elephant’s foot landed softly back in the snow. He didn’t want to kick a new friend! The two of them stood there for a long moment, one big and gray, the other small and orange. A gentle breeze blew, rustling the fox's bushy tail.
The elephant gave a low, rumbling sound that meant "hello," and the little fox's tail gave a small, friendly wag in return. The world might have been covered in snow, but in that moment, they both felt a new, warm feeling spreading through their hearts. The baby elephant and the little fox had found each other, and the first winter was going to be an adventure they would share together.
