An elephant lived near a beautiful riverbank at the edge of a forest. Being a gentle creature, he made it a routine to come to the river every day to drink water and bathe.
One such day, the elephant was just standing by the riverbank. Suddenly, a small green bird flew down and landed right in front of him. She started walking back and forth in a great hurry. The elephant watched her with curiosity. All of a sudden, the bird pecked hard into the ground with her long beak and pulled something out of the soil. It was a tiny earthworm.
Unable to contain his curiosity, the elephant asked, "What are you doing?"
Showing the earthworm in her beak, the bird replied, "I am eating this earthworm."
The elephant was astonished. Moving his large trunk, he asked, "Will this tiny earthworm satisfy your hunger?"
"Of course it will," the bird said confidently. She continued, "Look at how small my body is compared to yours! This one little earthworm is more than enough to satisfy my hunger."
Hearing the bird's reply, the elephant understood the point. Smiling, he said, "What you said is very true. My body is huge, so I need to eat large coconut leaves and tree branches to satisfy my hunger. Everyone's needs are according to their body."
The bird smiled happily too. Realizing that every creature in nature has its own unique ways and needs, the two parted as good friends.
