When Mama Bear woke up from her nap, her heart skipped a beat—her cub was gone! Panicked, she began frantically searching through the tall grass and bushes.
She spotted a bird soaring high above. "Excuse me!" Mama Bear called out. "Have you seen my baby?"
"I have!" chirped the bird. "I saw him climbing a big tree just a little way down the trail." The bird pointed his wing toward a clearing in the woods.
Mama Bear raced to the spot and found her cub high up in the branches, reaching for a golden honeycomb.
"Careful, little one! Come down," Mama Bear called up. "That honeycomb is too far away, and it’s dangerous for a cub to be that high!"
But the cub was so focused on the sweet smell of honey that he didn't listen. He reached out just a little too far, his paw slipped, and—whoosh!—he tumbled through the air. Luckily, Mama Bear was right there to catch him in her big, soft arms.
"I'm so sorry, Mama," the cub whimpered, hugging her tight.
"It’s okay, little one," Mama Bear soothed. "But you have to be careful. How about I teach you the right way to get a honeycomb?"
Mama Bear climbed the tree with ease and carefully retrieved the honeycomb. It was heavy and dripping with sweet, golden nectar. The cub’s eyes lit up with joy. Together, they headed back home to enjoy their delicious treat, the cub promising to always stay close to Mama from then on.
