As a hippo lazily rested in the pond, a small blue bird fluttered down and landed gently on his back. The hippo immediately noticed something bright and unusual clutched in the bird's beak.
"Hey, where did you get that? Is that a red pebble?" the hippo asked, his eyes wide with excitement.
"No, dear. It's a red cherry," the bird replied cheerfully. "I found it on a tree. It was the very last cherry left on the branches, which makes it feel extra special."
The bird and the hippo admired the tiny, brilliant red fruit, sharing a quiet moment of wonder.
"Can I hold it for just a second?" the hippo asked, tilting his head with a hopeful grin.
The bird hesitated for a moment, looking at the tiny cherry in her beak and then down at the massive hippo. With a gentle flap of her wings, she carefully leaned over and dropped the bright red fruit right onto the tip of the hippo’s wet snout.
The hippo went cross-eyed trying to look at it, holding completely still so it wouldn't roll off. They both giggled—the bird chirping merrily and the hippo letting out a low, rumbling chuckle that sent ripples across the pond.
