Once upon a time, in a bright green meadow beneath a perfectly blue sky, lived a little brown rabbit known to everyone as the bravest creature in the woods. If you look closely at her, she doesn't look like an ordinary bunny. Her ears stretch straight up to the clouds like twin antennas, her fur is a swirl of energetic, scribbly lines, and her eyes are as big and round as two full moons. The other forest animals always wondered, "How is she so incredibly brave?" The squirrels thought she had a secret superpower. The owls thought she was a kung-fu master. But one day, a little field mouse finally asked her, "Aren't you ever afraid of the dark, or the big bad foxes, or even a sudden thunderstorm?" The rabbit let out a little giggle that sounded like a bubbling brook. "Oh, it's very simple," she said, tapping her nose. "I have three secrets to being brave!"
"Look at my eyes," the rabbit said. "They are always wide open! When your eyes are big and bright, you see the world as a place full of wonders instead of secrets. Nothing can sneak up on you and scare you when you are already looking right at it with a big, curious smile."
"See all those messy, fun lines all over my fur?" she laughed, pointing to her fuzzy outline. "Those are my zoom-lines! They mean my imagination is always running at top speed. Whenever a scary thought tries to pop into my head, my happy thoughts just run right past it. I'm too busy thinking about dancing in the grass to worry about being afraid!"
"And finally, my ears," she whispered, wiggling her tall ears. "They are so tall they can hear a happy song from miles away. When the wind howls or the thunder rumbles, I just use my big ears to listen to the birds singing instead. You get to choose what you listen to!"
A Little Lesson from the Meadow: Being brave doesn't mean you never feel startled. It just means you keep your eyes wide open to the magic around you, keep your thoughts moving forward, and always listen for the good things in the world!
What kind of adventure do you think our brave little rabbit friend is looking at right now?
