The bear was having a peaceful day strolling through the forest when a loud roar shattered the quiet. Out of the trees stepped a tiger, glaring fiercely.
"Why did you cross into my territory?" the tiger growled.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I had no idea this was your territory," the bear replied, taking a step back.
"It is my territory," said the tiger, pointing a sharp claw. "Can't you see my scratch marks on every tree here? They show that I own this land. Trespassers will be prosecuted!"
The bear apologized again and returned home.
Later that day, heavy rains struck the forest, triggering a flash flood. The low-lying land where the tiger lived was completely underwater. Struggling against the current, the tiger swam until he reached higher ground—right outside the bear's doorstep.
Collapsed on the ground and gasping for breath, the tiger looked up to see the bear looking down at him.
"Hey, what happened?" asked the bear.
Between gasps, the tiger explained how the flood had destroyed his home. Instead of holding a grudge, the bear welcomed the tiger into his house with open arms and introduced him to his family.
The tiger stayed with the bear family for several days until the floodwaters finally receded. On the day of his departure, the tiger turned to the bear, his head held low.
"I am so sorry for how I treated you earlier," the tiger said sincerely. "You saved me when I had nowhere else to go. Please, come to my part of the forest anytime you wish—you will always be welcome."
The bear smiled, happy to hear those words. From that day on, the two were inseparable friends.
