The Elephant And The Rat On A Boat

rat on the boat being helped by an elephant
Hey, Don't worry, I will help you out!

Elsa the Elephant had big, floppy ears and a long, swishy trunk. One sunny afternoon, she strolled down to the big blue river for a cool, refreshing drink.

Splash! Splash!

As she bent down, her eyes grew wide. "What's that little speck?" she thought.

It was a tiny wooden boat! And who was rowing it? Reggie the Rat!

Reggie had a little wooden paddle and was trying to move his boat up the river—against the current!

"Hee-ho! Hee-ho!" Reggie squeaked, working hard.

But then, THUMP!

Reggie's boat hit a thick, muddy reed rack near the bank. The boat was stuck! Reggie pushed and pulled his paddle with all his might.

"Squeak! Squeak! Why won't you go, boat?" he cried, getting tired.

Elsa saw how hard the tiny rat was trying. She took her long, gentle trunk and lowered it slowly toward the little boat.

Very, very carefully, Elsa gave the little boat a soft, smooth push...

Whoosh!

The boat popped right off the mud and started gliding down the river again!

"Wheeee!" squealed Reggie, happily paddling. He looked up at the giant, kind elephant.

"Oh, thank you, thank you, kind Elsa!" Reggie called out. "You are the best helper in the whole wide river!"

Elsa smiled a big, happy elephant smile. She winked a big eye and then enjoyed her cool drink, happy she had helped a friend.
