Once upon a time, high up on a rocky cliff, a big, striped tiger named Toby was watching the grassy meadow below. Toby’s tummy was rumbling, and he had his eyes set on a delicious lunch: a little grey baby wild boar named Barnaby.
Barnaby had absolutely no idea Toby was up there. He was just happily trotting along, sniffing the flowers, and munching on the sweet green grass. Crunch, crunch, munch!
The Waiting Game Toby the tiger smiled a sneaky smile.
"If I just wait right here," Toby whispered to himself, "that little piglet will walk right up to the cliff. Then, I can just hop down and catch him with zero effort!"
So, Toby waited. He stayed as still as a statue.
But Barnaby wasn't following Toby’s plan. Barnaby saw a pretty yellow butterfly and followed it. Flutter, flutter. Then he saw a cool-looking mud puddle and went to investigate. He was wandering further and further away into the meadow.
The Big Leap Toby’s patience ran out. His tummy gave a giant ROAR! "Oh no, you don't!" Toby growled. He couldn't resist the urge anymore. Instead of climbing down carefully, Toby took a giant, flying leap right off the high cliff!
Swoooosh! went the wind.
But the cliff was way too high for a jump. Toby went tumbling down, missing Barnaby completely.
THUD! OUCH! Toby landed right in a patch of prickly bushes. "Ouweee!" he cried, rubbing his bruised paws and his bumped nose. He was totally fine, but he was definitely going to need an ice pack and some rest.
A Lucky Escape Hearing the loud THUD, Barnaby stopped munching. He looked back and saw the tangled tiger in the bushes.
"Oh my gosh! A tiger!" Barnaby squeaked.
With a wiggle of his little tail and a fast scamper-scamper-scamper, Barnaby zoomed across the meadow and safely ran all the way home to his mom.
The Moral of the Story Toby learned a very important lesson that day: Impatience can trip you up! Sometimes, when you rush into things without thinking, you end up with a bumped nose instead of a prize.
And as for Barnaby? He learned that it’s always a good idea to look up and pay attention to your surroundings, even when the grass tastes amazing!
