Once upon a time, in the cheerful town of Green Valley, lived a little rabbit named Bunny. Bunny was always in a hurry. If he was brushing his teeth, he did it in a flash. If he was eating carrots, he swallowed them whole!
One sunny morning, Bunny got the most exciting gift for his birthday—a shiny, bright blue sports car.
"Vroom, vroom!" Bunny cheered, jumping into the driver's seat. "Now I can go everywhere faster than anyone else!"
He zoomed down the road, his long ears flying back in the wind. He was having so much fun that he didn't even look at the beautiful flowers or the waving trees. He just wanted to go fast.
Soon, Bunny reached the town's railway crossing. The red lights were blinking, and the big safety gate was starting to come down.
Clang! Clang! Clang! went the warning bell.
Bunny tapped his paws on the steering wheel impatiently. "Oh, come on!" he thought. "I am in a huge hurry today. Besides, I don't see any train. I'm sure it’s not coming anytime soon!"
Instead of stopping like a good driver, Bunny stepped on the gas pedal. Screeech! He zipped right under the closing gate and stepped directly onto the train tracks.
Suddenly, the ground began to shake. Chugga-chugga, chugga-chugga!
Bunny looked out his window, and his eyes grew as big as saucers. A gigantic, bright yellow train with a huge red nose was rushing right toward him! It was so close that Bunny could feel the wind from its engine.
HOOOOONK! HOOOOONK! blew the train's loud horn.
Bunny froze in terror. His heart went thump-thump-thump. He realized his big mistake. He had been in such a rush that he put himself in terrible danger! With all his might, Bunny slammed his foot on the gas pedal one last time. His little blue car shot forward, clearing the tracks just as the massive yellow train roared past behind him—WOOSH!
Bunny pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the car. His hands were shaking, and his long ears were drooping. He looked back at the speeding train and took a deep breath. He was safe, but he had learned a lesson he would never forget.
From that day on, Bunny was still a happy rabbit who loved his blue car, but he was never a reckless rabbit again. Whenever he came to a railway crossing, he would stop, look both ways, listen carefully, and repeat his new favorite rule:
"It is always better to lose a minute in life, than to lose your life in a minute!"
