It was another usual day for Smokey, the cheerful steam engine. Chuffing and puffing white smoke into the air, Smokey was rolling along the tracks, picking up speed.
Smokey was soon at full speed when he saw a very unusual sight way up ahead. A bright green frog was hopping straight up and down, right next to the rail!
"That's strange!" thought Smokey. Curious, the big engine slowly began to slow down. Squeak! Chug-a-lug! When Smokey came to a gentle stop, he blew a little toot of his whistle and asked the frog why he was hopping so wildly.
"Hey there! I'm here to warn you!" the little frog said, pointing a tiny finger ahead. "Just around that bend, there's a huge rock that slid down onto the track from a landslide!"
The train stopped completely. Inside the cab, the Engine Driver and the Fireman wondered why Smokey had suddenly pulled the brakes.
"What's the trouble, old friend?" the Driver called out.
Smokey explained what the frog had said. The Driver and the Fireman hopped down and walked ahead. Sure enough, just a few feet away, a big, gray boulder was blocking the track!
They quickly worked together to roll the stone out of the way. When the track was clear, they climbed back into Smokey's cab and started the engine.
Peeeeep! Smokey gave a long, grateful whistle. "Thank you so much for your fast warning, little friend!"
The frog waved goodbye as Smokey chugged ahead down the now-clear track. The little frog felt warm and happy inside because he was able to save the train and all the people on board!
