Leo the Lion was enjoying a nice, cool bath in the wide river. The sun was warm, and the water felt just right on his paws and his magnificent mane. He was splashing around, having a great time.
Suddenly, right next to him, the water bubbled and churned!
A giant, gray head popped out of the water! It was Horace the Hippo!
Horace had big, startled eyes and looked a little surprised himself, since he hadn't meant to get so close.
"WHOA!" cried Leo. He didn't know hippos could sneak up like that!
Seeing that huge hippo suddenly appear was a big shock! With a mighty roar (that sounded a little squeaky because he was so scared!), Leo leaped out of the river! He scrambled right up the sandy bank and didn't stop running until he was safely behind the nearest acacia tree.
Horace the Hippo just blinked his big eyes, looked around, and chuckled. "What was that all about?" he wondered, before sinking back down into the cool water.
