Lion And The Deer

Time to alert my friends

Leo the Lion was feeling very grumpy because his tummy was rumbling! He hadn't had breakfast, and now it was lunchtime. "Time to go to Deer Meadow. Hunting a deer is so easy and exciting," he thought. "That's an easy place to find a tasty treat."

He crept into the meadow, thinking it would be a super easy job. Alertness In Action But guess what? A very smart and quick-footed deer named Dottie was eating grass nearby. Dottie looked up and saw Leo's big, furry head poking through the tall weeds!

"Uh oh! Lion alert!" thought Dottie.

She didn't wait around! Dottie zoomed across the meadow to warn all her friends. "Run and hide, everyone! Leo the Lion is here!"

All the deer listened. They quietly tiptoed and hid behind big trees, inside thick bushes, and deep in the shady parts of the forest.

The Lion's Big Yawn-Roar Leo sniffed the air. He couldn't smell a single deer! He stood up, stretched his legs, and decided on his sneaky plan.

"Time for my famous Roar!" he grinned.

RRROOOOAAARRR!

Leo's roar was LOUD—it shook the leaves right off the trees! He knew the sound would scare the deer and make them jump up and run. Running deer are much easier to catch!

But Dottie and her friends were smart. They remembered what Dottie had told them: "If the lion roars, hold still and stay hidden!"

They didn't run. They kept as still as statues, hidden safely in their spots.

Leo waited... and waited... He looked left, then right. He ran behind one bush, then another tree. Nothing! Not one single bouncy deer!

"Aww, shucks!" Leo sighed. He was tired, still hungry, and very disappointed. He scratched his head and slowly walked away, mumbling, "Guess I'll have to find a nice little mouse instead."

The deer giggled quietly to themselves. They had used their brains and teamwork to stay safe!
