In the heart of the sunny savanna, there was a sparkling pond known as the Blue Lagoon. It was home to two unlikely best friends: Hugo the Hippo and Crush the Croc.
While most hippos and crocodiles keep to themselves, Hugo and Crush had shared the same muddy bank for years. Hugo loved to splash and munch on river grass, while Crush preferred to snooze in the sun like a big, green log. They were different, but they were a team.
One afternoon, the ground began to shake. Thump. Thump. THUMP! A huge parade of grumpy elephants marched toward the water. Their leader, a giant tusker, trumpeted loudly. They wanted the Blue Lagoon all to themselves and told the friends they had to leave.
Hugo and Crush looked at each other. This was their home! They didn’t want to fight, but they knew they had to be brave.
Hugo’s Move: Hugo stood at the water’s edge, opened his mouth wide, and let out a roar so deep it sounded like thunder.
Crush’s Move: Crush whipped his powerful tail back and forth, splashing massive waves toward the shore.
The elephants had never seen a hippo and a croc work together before. Every time an elephant tried to step into the mud, Hugo stood firm like a mountain, and Crush zipped through the water like a green streak.
Seeing that the two friends would never give up on their home, the elephants realized they were outnumbered by the power of friendship. They turned around and marched off to find a different pond further down the trail.
Hugo and Crush bumped noses—their version of a high-five. The Blue Lagoon was safe, and they spent the rest of the day doing what they did best: being the bravest, best friends in the wild.
