"Hey buddy, I’ve got some good news and some bad news," the dog said, wagging his tail as he looked up at the giant elephant.
The elephant’s ears perked up. "Oh, I love good news! Tell me the good stuff first."
"The good news," the dog whispered, "is that just around the bend, there's a huge pile of sweet, yellow bananas waiting to be eaten."
The elephant’s trunk wiggled with excitement. "That sounds amazing! So, what’s the bad news?"
The dog leaned in close, looking around nervously. "The bad news is that a scary, shadow-munching monster is guarding the road. He’s looking for a big snack. Now, I know you’re the strongest animal in the woods, so I’m sure a little monster is no big deal for you, right?"
The elephant’s eyes went wide. He started to shake from his trunk down to his toes. "A monster? Checking for snacks? Actually... I think I’ve lost my appetite. I don't care how sweet those bananas are; I’m staying far away from shadow-monsters!"
Without another word, the elephant spun around and stampeded in the opposite direction, leaving a cloud of dust behind him.
The dog let out a playful bark and turned toward the trees. "Okay, guys, the coast is clear!"
A troop of monkeys swung down from the branches, cheering. "Nice job!" they hooted. They all headed toward the road, where a delivery truck had accidentally dropped crates of perfect, ripe bananas. Thanks to the dog’s quick thinking, the monkeys had the whole feast to themselves.
