Bentley was not just any dog—he was a floppy-eared, white-and-black rescue pup with a very big heart and a very sharp nose. He wore a bright red vest that meant one thing: he was on the job!
One cool afternoon, Bentley was trotting down a quiet forest path when he stumbled upon something very unusual. Parked right in the middle of a grassy clearing was a bright red bus.
Bentley padded over on his soft paws and sniffed around the tires. Sniff, sniff, snort.
There was something not right about this vehicle abandoned in the middle of nowhere, Bentley thought. The engine was cold, the doors were wide open, and nobody was in the driver's seat.
Suddenly, Bentley’s long ears perked straight up.
Whimper... sob...
It was a tiny, quiet sound coming from deep inside the woods. Someone was crying in pain!
Bentley didn't hesitate for a single second. Thanks to all his special rescue training, his instincts kicked right in. He nose-dived through the tall grass, his tail swishing like a propeller as he followed the sound.
Crack! Crunch! went the twigs beneath his paws.
In a small ditch under a tall oak tree, Bentley found a park ranger named Sam. Sam had slipped while checking on the forest trees and hurt his ankle. He couldn't walk!
"Oh, hello there, buddy," Sam groaned, squeezing his eyes shut. "I'm so glad to see you."
Bentley knew exactly what to do:
Within minutes, the rest of the rescue team arrived. They wrapped Sam's ankle in a cozy bandage and lifted him safely into an ambulance.
Before they drove away, Ranger Sam reached down to pat Bentley right behind his favorite ear spot. "You saved the day, Bentley! You're a true hero."
Bentley gave a proud tail wag. It was all in a day's work for the best rescue dog in the forest!
